Due to the Governor’s declaration of a State of Emergency in response to the dangerous weather conditions, the Columbus Day Parade scheduled for today has been cancelled for the safety of all participants and viewers.

As part of the Columbus Day Parade, 5th Avenue between East 44th Street and East 79th Street in Manhattan will be closed from 11 AM to 3 PM tomorrow, 10/13. Consider alternate routes and allow for additional travel time.

Alternate side parking and trash/recycling/composting collection services have been suspended citywide on 10/13 for Italian Heritage Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day by the New York City Department of Sanitation and the New York City Department of Transportation. Payment at parking meters will remain in effect throughout the city.

New York City is forecast to experience intermittent wind gusts in excess of 40 mph on 10/12 - 10/13. Strong winds can cause downed trees and tree limbs, as well as power outages. New Yorkers should report locations of downed trees and tree limbs, especially those down on houses, at NYC.gov/311 or by calling 3-1-1 (212-639-9675 for Video Relay Service, or TTY 212-504-4115).
Preparedness Actions:
Before a Power Outage
- Charge cell phones
- Gather supplies
- Turn refrigerator/freezers to a colder setting
During a Power Outage
- Stay clear of downed power lines
- Turn off all appliances
- Keep refrigerator/freezer doors closed to prevent food spoilage
- Do not use generators indoors
- If you have a disability/access needs or use Life Sustaining Equipment (LSE) and need immediate assistance, dial 911.
